about
This track is a rework by Daniel Van Lion of "El jardinero", one of the most special tracks of Caliza's last album "El Descenso". caliza.bandcamp.com/track/el-jardinero
"El jardinero" is inspired by Brian Eno and his vision of the artist, which he has explained in several interviews. For Eno, the artist is like a gardener, they create a situation where seeds can grow, and once they plant them, they see how they grow but cannot predict the results in advance. Unlike an architect, who first designs down to the last detail and then the construction is carried out. He compares art to fire: it's a power tool not necessarily used to do good, the way you use it matters. Eno's main concern is climate change, the time we have left as a species before it's all over, or at least irreversible. And he wonders about the importance of his own personal work in such a context. For the first time in his life he wants to influence people's attitudes with his work. Perhaps the time has come when artists must put themselves at the service of something more important than their own work?
Listening to Brian Eno's podcast on the 30th anniversary of Warp on NTS Radio was what made me discover Extinction Rebellion and get involved in the fight against climate change.
Now, a year after the song came out in my third album "El descenso", it finds a new embodiment in the production of Daniel Van Lion, whose deconstructed electronic music is always inspired by nature and botanics. And, at the same time, Brian Eno has released a new album, in which he chooses to sing again, after many years without doing so, precisely about his climate anxiety, and about his very own"gardens".
Soy un jardinero,
soy un jardinero,
no sé qué estoy haciendo,
veo crecer lo bello
No soy arquitecto,
no soy arquitecto,
hago lo que puedo
y aún así a donde voy nunca llego.
Esto es como el fuego,
esto es como el fuego,
detrás de su poder
no siempre se esconde lo bueno.
Me hipnotizan sus llamas,
mirando me entretengo,
y así pasan semanas hasta que
un día me quemo.
Ya no pienso ser jardinero,
he de ser agricultor.
Hacer más de lo que debo
y menos de lo que quiero yo.
¿Cuánto tiempo nos queda?
¿Cuánto tiempo nos queda?
¿A qué espero, a qué esperas?
¿A qué espero, a qué esperas?
¿Cuánto tiempo nos queda?
¿Cuánto tiempo nos queda?
¿Qué otra cosa hay a la que puedas
dedicarle tus poemas?
Podría podar una flor,
cantarle así al amor.
Podría podar una flor,
cantarle así al amor.
